. . . . . . . . . . . .

In Latin terminology, the word "psychology" means "study of the soul". It is a high calling to study the soul. As human beings, we tend to take our physical health for granted until we become ill or experience pain or discomfort. It is much the same with our souls. We tend to take our psychological health for granted until we encounter circumstances in life that bring pain, distress, discomfort, or disease.

With the entry of these painful circumstances into our lives often comes sorrow, hopelessness, fear, or confusion. It can be hard to know where to turn. You long for hope to be restored, peace to flood your heart, and healing to replace the feelings of brokenness. You wonder if joy will ever be possible again.

I would like to suggest to you that the pain that you are experiencing has a purpose. The pain can be a tool to shape your soul. The pain can become a pathway to restoration and healing in the deep places of your being. This soul-work is sacred ground. Jesus said "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? What can anyone give in exchange for their soul?" (Matthew 16:26). Your soul matters. It is of great worth in God's sight.
